I decided to do a bit of a detox/cleanse the last couple of days. What with being a bit run down and busy the last few weeks, I haven’t been eating right and I wanted to sort myself out and feel healthier.
I’m not one for a week-long diet of only liquids. I don’t have the time, inclination (or discipline!) for it. No matter how good I will supposedly feel after, being hungry, tired and headachey doesn’t appeal to me! So, a healthy cleanse for 2-3 days is more realistic for me.
If you’re keen to try this, I would recommend doing it on a weekend when you don’t have much planned and you’re not going out (a few tipples will defeat the purpose!). I believe in keeping it as simple as possible, with fresh ingredients, and all homemade.
Start your day with hot water and a slice of lemon (it’s a good cleanser).
Breakfast: Green Veg Juice – 1/2 bag spinach, 1 carrot, 1 apple and the juice of 1/2 lemon. You can hardly taste the spinach and it’s packed full of goodness, making me feel like I’m having my Popeye juice to start the day ; )
Snack: Small bowl of pineapple chunks (pineapple contains a digestive enzyme which helps with bloating)
Lunch: Fresh Salad – spinach, watercress and rocket with tomato, cucumber and red and yellow peppers. Use olive oil and lemon juice as a dressing.
Snack: A few carrot batons and hummus.
Dinner: Homemade veg soup – 1 x tin chopped tomatoes, 2-3 large carrots, 2-3 celery sticks, 1 large onion, all roughly chopped, no-salt stock cube and 2l hot water. Boil for 20 mins then let simmer for 40mins.
Drinks: 1l water and 1l green tea.
Keep it fresh and clean and mostly raw. So no sugar, salt, caffeine, wheat, meat, dairy or alcohol.
I would recommend only doing light exercise on these days, like yoga, Pilates, long walks – nothing too strenuous.
Why not use this time to pamper yourself a bit? Hair mask, face mask, body brushing and a long hot bath with epsom salts…
